Is mór an onóir dom go raibh an ról mar Chathaoirleach agam ar chlub Naomh Finnéin Caisleán Nua don bhliain 2018. Le linn na bliana comóradh seo, an cúigiú bliain is seachtó, ba mhaith liom buíochas a ghabháil leis na baill uile, ón am atá caite agus an lá atá inniu ann, atá tar éis cuir le fás agus forbairt an chlub seo. Ó bunaíodh an club i 1943, lean sé ar aghaidh ag déanamh ionadaíocht ar an bparóiste, tríd an obair chrua, an díograis agus an paisean atá acu ar ár gclub. Ba mhaith liom ádh mór agus gach rath a thabhairt chuig go léir na baill agus na himreoirí ar fad don bhliain seo, 2018.
It is a great honour, that I have been appointed to the role of Chairman for St. Finians Newcastle for 2018. In this 75th anniversary year, I would like to thank all the members past and present who have contributed to the growth and development of our club. Since its establishment in 1943 the club has continued to represent the parish with hard work, enthusiasm and passion. I would like to wish all members and players the best of luck for 2018.
I wish to thank all those who have sponsored St. Finians GAA club. Without the financial assistance, that you have contributed, the club would not be able to survive and provide the excellent facilities for our players and members to enjoy. I would like to thank our main sponsors Greenogue Aerodrome who have been extremely generous in their sponsorship over the years and who continue to support the club in any way. I would also like to acknowledge past club sponsors Sharp Security and Sandymark Construction. The club is extremely grateful for the contributions they have given to the club. To all our sponsors that have contributed to the St. Finians fundraising events over the years we are enormously grateful. We hope that their sponsorship is recognised in the community and as a result, their business is enhanced.
Without volunteers willing to take on various positions, it will be difficult to run the club in a way that works well for growing numbers. To the executive committee and all the sub-committees in the club, members are extremely appreciative of all the time, hard work and commitment to the club you have given. Without the support from these volunteers, the club would struggle to operate. Special thanks has to be given to our maintenance team, in particular Mick Harney, Mick McCarthy, Con McCarthy, Pat McInerney and Colin Trant. On any given day, these men have ensured that the grounds and pitch is in excellent condition for our players and members.
We are indebted to our large volume of coaches and mentors, for their fantastic and unyielding dedication to all of our teams in the club. I would like to thank the coaches who have given up their time voluntarily two or three times a week for the benefit of players and the club. Our coaches are the lifeblood of the organisation and are fundamental to our success. All coaches are Garda vetted, have attended a Child Protection Course and have, as a minimum completed a foundation-training course. I would like to encourage everyone within the club to develop and learn new skills and take an active role in the development of our club.
I would like to wish all players in St Finians a successful and hopefully fruitful year ahead with the club. Praise must be given to players that represent the club in an exemplary manner, for their attitude, hard work and commitment to the club. I would like to encourage and remind all players to constantly uphold the values and ethos of the GAA and St. Finians GAA club while representing the club.
The club is all about our players, administrators and supporters. The games is what connects us around which everything revolves in the club. This year the club will develop a strategic plan for St. Finians. The essential purpose of the strategic review is to determine how best to plan for the next decade so that our club can enrich the lives of our members, our community and all who come in contact with the club. It is about creating the best club environment to be enjoyed by all our people. A sub-committee will be established to create and design this strategic plan, which will be presented to the club members this year.
The club has grown in the last number of years thanks to the hard work put in at the juvenile section, which has seen a new generation of players and members involved within our club structure. The growth in the number of girl’s teams in our juvenile section has been extremely positive. A new energy and enthusiasm is running through the club. New ideas are coming forward and new people are getting involved. We aim to compete to the best of our ability in the coming year in all grades.
In this the 75th anniversary year of the club, we have redeveloped the club website. The aim of this site is to provide a medium of communication with all our supporters, particularly those living in far off places. Updates will be provided on future events being run by the club and the progress of our fundraising events during the year.
To achieve our objectives we need the support of all connected with St. Finians. Your help is vital for the future success and development of our club. We have a club that we can be immensely proud of that has evolved over the 75 years. Please continue to support this great club – it is your club, your parish.
